Studio Policies
Dance:
Class Designation & Student Progress: Students are grouped according to age, skill, practicing habits and attendance. If we feel a student isn’t keeping up, or could progress faster, we will move them to another class. Please have your child/children try a class for at least a month before consulting your teacher about moving to another class.
Attendance: Understanding that things come up, we must also remember that your class was scheduled to suit your needs at the beginning of the season; therefore, regularly missed classes will REQUIRE make up, private lessons or a class change (if we are not too far into recital routines.) If a student misses more than 3 practices in a row, parent & teacher must meet to discuss options.
Tuition: Payments are broken up into monthly, will be billed the 1st of each month, and will be due on the 15th of every month. Tuition is non- refundable and is paid to save your child’s place in class. If your child has decided to stop attending class you must let the studio know at least 2 weeks before payment is due. If we are not contacted, we will continue to bill you for saving your child’s place in class.
Dance Music: As choreography progresses, practicing the dance with the music is ESSENTIAL. When dance music has been cut and the speed has been set, the dance teacher will email the music to the address provided on the registration form. If you wish the music to be re-sent, or sent to a different email address, you will need to let the teacher know.
Communication: There are two primary mediums for communication: The Facebook “Drishti Dance Parents” group page, and the studio app via TEAMAPP. You can download the teamapp and search for the studio. This app is FREE and is a great way to keep track of messages for your child’s classes. If you’d rather not use the app, then I suggest you join the Facebook group. All announcements are made in these to places.
Dress Code: Required dancewear and dance shoes MUST be worn to all classes. Students who arrive to class without appropriate gear will be asked to change.
Females 3-8: Dance dresses, or leotards with booty shorts, jazz pants, leggings, or wrap skirts are acceptable.
Females 9+: Leotards, or sports bras with booty shorts, leggings, or jazz pants are acceptable.
*PLEASE NOTE: Joggers, loose tank tops and gym shorts are NOT appropriate dance attire.
Males: Please see what is available in the Drishti dance shop, or look at the catalogs provided at the studio.
Dance Hair: Long hair MUST be in a bun. Short hair MUST be pulled back in a ponytail and clips. If your child’s hair is left down when she arrives to class, the teacher will use studio resources to pull up her hair. Although this seems like a small thing, the cost of pulling up children’s hair regularly adds up; therefore, every 4th time this is done for your child, a $2 accessory fee will be added to your bill. PLEASE send them to class with their hair up and ready.
Bad weather: When bad weather develops, all cancellations will be posted on our website, facebook dance parent group page, and on the team app. If you feel driving is unsafe, please call to advise us of the weather in your area. If you are not coming due to the weather, please let us know. Any classes canceled due to bad weather will not be made up unless we miss SEVERAL weeks of class. If school has been canceled or let out early, do not assume that dance classes are canceled.
Teacher Illness: As of right now, this studio has only one instructor. In the event of an illness, Christina will send a message via the team app to let parents know of the classes that need to be cancelled, and of class make up dates.
Injuries: Parents, legal guardians of minor students and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on Studio property resulting from normal dance, yoga activity, or any other activity conducted by the students before, during, or after class time.
Care of Students: The Studio is not responsible for providing before or after class care for young students. Children are expected to wait in the hallway until his or her class begins, and please be sure to have your child picked up promptly at the end of class.
Parental Supervision: Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend classes to observe their child’s progress, especially children under the age of seven. Taking notes or video is highly recommended in the dance room. If you are attending classes; however, PLEASE do not use this time to socialize with other parents in the classroom. Likewise, if you have a small child who needs to stretch his or her legs or stretch his or her vocals, please feel free to take said child into the hallway to meet needs.
Practice: Students are EXPECTED to practice at home. The teacher will provide ample assistance for home practice, including copies of the music and videos of the routines. Just as students are given homework at school, dancers are given challenges in dance. One cannot expect to advance his or her skills if those skills are not regularly worked on. If a student continues to struggle, please contact the teacher to discuss private lessons or to switch to a different level of class.
Courtesy, Bullying, & Body Positivity: Although it is a rare occurrence, once in awhile there are behaviors that Christina deems unacceptable for her studio. Being rude to the teacher or other classmates, complaining about curriculum or choreography, making fun or ganging up on other dancers, or any comments made about one’s own (or somebody else’s) physicality, are NOT conducive with the Drishti vibe. If this behavior is noticed by the teacher, she may remove the dancer from class & provide a verbal warning. If the behavior continues, the dancer will be asked to sit out until behavior improves, & a discussion will take place with a parent or guardian as soon as possible.
