General Studio Questions

  • What Age can my child start dancing?
    •  Children can begin dancing at 3 years of age
  •  How is my child placed in class?
    • When assigning classes, I start grouping kids based on age, experience, and learning style.  If we start the season, and a class doesn’t feel right, other classes can be considered.
    • If your child has previously danced at a different studio, we recommend he or she attend a summer session so we can properly place your child for the upcoming season.
  • Does this studio participate in competition?
    • No.  Once upon a time we did have a competition team, but that kind of pressure doesn’t not match our vibe.  With that being said, however, our dancers have been asked to perform at various events around the state.  When that occurs, a class may be invited by the director to make an extra performance.
  • Is your studio serious about dance?
    • Very much. Our classes focus on proper stretching, warm-ups, and correct dance terminology.  Even if our dancers do not become pros, they will walk away from their Drishti experience well trained.
  • Does your studio ONLY focus on performance?
    • No. Classes are structured to teach dancers about self-responsibility (requiring a student to practice), self-care (teaching strength & flexibility exercises), and teamwork (through group activities).

Season Commitment

  • What happens after I register?
    •  Our season registration is open until our annual shoe fit and registration event in August. If you register today, you will hear from us in August, with information about your class schedule, and the official class start date.
  • How does the regular season work?
    • Classes will meet once a week from September until our show at the end of May.
  • Are my kids required to perform in the show?
    • While I don’t believe in forcing children to do things they don’t want to do,  we do recommend a child purchases a costume, and practices as though he or she will perform.  Otherwise, they may miss their chance if they change their mind.
  • Are practices mandatory?
    • While missing a class here and there is perfectly fine, please remember that once your child is placed in a class, he or she is part of a TEAM.  Good attendance is imperative for skill building and respectable performance.
  • What if my other activities interfere with my class time?
    • Upon registration, you are asked to enter times that DO NOT work with your schedule.  Please consider the entire season when answering this question, I can not change and entire class schedule once the season has begun.
    •   Also note, that I do my best to work around your schedule, but if you find that you are only open on say “Wednesdays from 5-6”  we may not be about to work with you. (Yes, people have done this.)
    • I fully support kids trying multiple activities, but I kindly ask that dance is not always at the bottom of your priority list.  Remember your child is part of a team. Continued absences are not only unfair to those dancers that regularly attend, and is inconsiderate.

Tuition & Costs

  • How do I pay for classes?
    •  Tuition is invoiced, via email, on the first of every month and can be paid only or in person.
  • How much are costumes, and when do I have to pay for them?
    • Costumes are currently running between $65-$150 each
    • Invoices for costumes will be sent out in October, and are due by Christmas break. If you need to set up a payment plan, you need to set that up with Christina at the beginning of the season.  Costumes are no longer ordered until they are paid for.
  • What other costs should I expect?
    • At the time you are invoiced for your costumes,  you will be charged a recital fee ($60/dancer). Because we do not sell tickets for the annual recital, the recital fee helps cover the cost of the venue, and staff needed to run the show.
    • Shoes and uniforms. These can run between $20-$65, depending on what your child requires.
    • An administation fee is  charged upon submission of the regular season form.  This holds your child’s place in class and is non-refundable should you choose not to continue with the season.

Class Expections

  • What should my child wear to class?
    •  During our regular season, dancers are required to wear our studio uniform.  Uniforms consist of a Studio Dance shirt with black bottom, or a studio dress.  If a child shows up to class without her uniform, there are usually a couple of extras that can be borrowed.  Borrowed items that are not returned will be billed to the parent.
  • How long are classes?
    • Classes for kiddos 3-5 years old run 30 minutes each
    • Our transition classes for kids 6 & 7 run 45 minutes each
    • Full skills classes for kids 8+ run for an hour each
  • What happens if a child is being disruptive in class?
    • We give a lot of Grace to younger kids, if they are struggling to focus, we usually do our best to keep them actively engaged.
    • If our older dancers are being disruptive or disrespectful, they may be asked to sit in the hallway until they are ready to focus.
    • If there an issue with class, a parent is always notified.
    • We never want to dismiss anyone,  but if a student or family member is disrespectful to staff, or other dancers, we reserve the right to dismiss said individuals from our studio.

Summer Session Questions

  • Does my child need a uniform for Summer Session?
    •  Nope! Your child is welcome to come in comfy clothes, just be sure he or she can move, and hair is pulled back.
  • Is Summer a good time for beginners to start?
    • Yes! If you are completely new to dance, this is a perfect time to see what is right for you.  It may also give you a head start for the upcoming season, should  you choose to continue.
  • My child goes to a different studio, can he or she come to the summer session?
    • Welcome! We enjoy having dancers from all over.  We don’t like to think of other studios as “competition” but as “fellow dancers.”
    • Summer sessions are just for fun, and are an excellent way to stay active when studios are on vacation.
